Pixie (# 729) is a very petite, courageous little
girl. She is blind and I thought at first, she would be
timid and shy because of it. Instead, I was kissed all
over my face like she had known me all my life. She has
taught me many things since I have fostered her. One of
which is courage. She has many health problems and is a
very "high maintenance" little girl. She weighs 14
pounds and is black. She is diabetic and requires two
shots everyday. Also, she has a skin condition that
makes her scratch and itch pretty much constantly. I
bathe her once a week with special shampoo. She takes
two benadryl a day for her allergies and also 1/2 of a
thyroid pill. The pills are hidden in mini marshmallows
which have to be the flavored (pastel colored) variety.
These are also her treats and are figured in with her
insulin. She must go to the doctor once a month for an
allergy (antihistamine) shot. It sounds like a lot but
it's just a matter of being in a routine. She sleeps in
the bed with me-many, many times under the covers. She
has become a very large part of my life in a very short
time and anyone would be lucky to have 9 year old Pixie
as a member of their family. She is very special!
